Our Ref:          FOI-4276-1718

Thank you for your request received on 25 January 2018 asking for information about the T-Charge. I apologise for the delay in my response.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Environmental Information Regulations and our information access policy. I can confirm we hold some of the information you require. You asked for:

1. Please disclose the total amount raised by the £10 T-charge since it began and provide a month-by-month breakdown showing the number of charges each month (including this month);

Our accounts show that the value of T-Charge payments received between 23 October 2017 and 3 February 2018 (the last full financial period for which verified data is available) was £901,800. In line with the scheme’s intended purpose, we have already observed fewer vehicles entering the charging zone. As a result, ‘standard’ Congestion Charge payments have decreased. As the amount of traffic entering the zone continues to decrease, this will result in a significant drop to London’s dangerous air pollution levels.

Please see the below monthly breakdown showing the amount of daily T-Charges purchased from the start of the scheme on 23 October 2017 to 28 February 2018.

 Oct 2017 Nov 2017 Dec 2017 Jan 2018 Feb 2018
Total Daily T-Charges 13,884 41,829 31,449 35,227 32,515

2. If possible, please provide a breakdown showing how many vehicles were petrol and how many were diesel.

We do not hold this information.

3. Please disclose the projected budget for operating the T-charge (monthly and annually);
4. Please disclose the cost of setting up the T-charge scheme;

This information is available on our website under the ‘Information on ULEZ and T-Charge approximate costs’ tab:

https://tfl.gov.uk/corporate/publications-and-reports/low-emission-zone.

5. Please disclose the number of penalty charges issued following failure to pay T-charge and the total raised from such penalties.

The T-Charge scheme went live on 23 October 2017. Please find below the amount of penalty charge notices (PCNs) issued per month based on contravention date and the total paid against the penalties.

  Oct 2017 Nov 2017 Dec 2017 Jan 2018 Feb 2018
