Request ID: FOI-4242-2324 Date published: 05 March 2024
You asked
Pease can you provide a list of products and services provided directly to TFL and/or via and subcontractors, other agencies, etc throughout London.
It seems TFL have a very close relationship with the Company as it seems they also provide Lamp Post EV chargers in many boroughs and in LU car parks.
We answered
TfL Ref: FOI-4242-2324
Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 16th February 2024 asking for information about Siemens products and services used by TfL. Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.
Specifically you asked:
“Siemens products and services used by TFL and/or their 'Agents': Pease can you provide a list of products and services provided directly to TFL and/or via and subcontractors, other agencies, etc throughout London. It seems TFL have a very close relationship with the Company as it seems they also provide Lamp Post EV chargers in many boroughs and in LU car parks.”
I am afraid it is not possible to answer your question within the costs limit for responding to requests, as set out under section 12 of the Freedom of Information Act. Under section 12, TfL is not required to provide information if it would cost more than £450 to determine if that information is held, and to then locate, retrieve or extract it from elsewhere. This is calculated at a rate of £25 per hour, equivalent to 18 hours work.
In this instance the exemption applies because the information has not been collated before and because there is no quick, efficient or automated way of doing so. The range of TfL’s activities in London is vast (including in relation to the London Underground, the London Overground, the Elizabeth Line, the Docklands Light Railway, trams, buses, river services, Dial-A-Ride, the Transport for London Road Network and Road User Charging schemes, the Thames cable car, Victoria Coach station, the London Transport Museum, the Lost Property Office, the cycle hire scheme, and more), along with the associated infrastructure and administrative functions necessary to support those activities. Any one of these could potentially involve “products” or “services” provided by Siemens, either directly to TfL or via subcontractors. Just trying to determine what information might be held in relation to your request would in itself be an excessive task, notwithstanding the need to then source it all. While it is difficult to estimate exactly how long this would take, we believe it would be far in excess of the £450 limit.
In order to bring your request within the costs limit you may wish to reframe it to narrow its scope. Note that TfL proactively publishes a Contracts Register where we list all contracts worth £5000 or more. This can be found on the following page of our website, and may be of interest to you:
