Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 16 February 2024 asking for information about Surrey Canal Road station and Old Kent Road healthy streets.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold the information you require. You asked: Please provide any information you have on the status of Surrey Canal Road overground station and the Old Kent Road healthy streets scheme. What is the status of negotiations with government on funding for the station from the Housing Infrastructure Fund? What is the latest estimate of the build cost of the station?
Surrey Canal Road Station
We have completed our initial stages of design and are now working with the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUCH) and the Department for Transport (DfT) to explore funding options for the next stage of work, which will include the formal planning application process, detailed design work and construction. Since your last request in October 2023 we have been undertaking a detailed review of the designs to identify any available efficiencies, whilst continuing to work to secure funding from a range of other sources, including contributions from developers, to support this work. Since we have not yet secured a full funding package for the station works, we do not hold further details regarding timescales at this time.
Old Kent Road Healthy Streets scheme
The Old Kent Road Healthy Streets project is currently undertaking the feasibility design stage. The work is planned to be delivered in phases to meet the demand and development opportunities across the wider Old Kent Road Opportunity Area. The first phase of design will focus on providing targeted bus, cycling and walking improvements to the southern section of Old Kent Road between St. James Road and Ilderton Road. At this time, the programme for delivery is still to be agreed, and will be developed once funding and works coordination opportunities are established.
