Maximum number or value of coins / banknotes accepted in a ticket machine

Request ID: FOI-4183-2324
Date published: 05 March 2024

You asked

Dear Transport for London, Under the Freedom Of Information Act I am requesting details about your policy of Transport For London on the maximum number or value of coins / banknotes accepted by a ticket machine. I have noticed during top-up of my Oyster Card by coins that a red text appears after after some time specifying the remaining number of coins accepted. Therefore I would like to know the exact maximum number of coins a ticket machine can accept. I would also like to know at the same time if there is any policy regarding the maximum value or number of coins or banknotes that a ticket machine will accept. I would appreciate any information you can provide regarding this request. Thank you very much for your help and i hope to hear back from you soon.
