I would like to make a request for the passenger numbers for the 240 bus, specifically tap ins at Medawar drive on the route. Can this be provided for years 2018 - 2023? And is Information available by time of day?

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 13th February 2024 asking for information about bus passenger numbers. Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.
Specifically you asked:
“I would like to make a request for the passenger numbers for the 240 bus, specifically tap ins at Medawar drive on the route. Can this be provided for years 2018 - 2023? And is Information available by time of day?”
I can confirm that we hold the information you require.
The requested data can be found in the attached spreadsheet. The data shows the average number of boarders in each time period, broken down by month from January 2018 and December 2023. The boardings take place at the bus stops at Medawar Drive (formerly known as Burtonhole Lane) on the route 240 in both directions.
The time periods used and the hours they represent are as follows:
Weekday AM peak (07:00-10:00)
Weekday Inter-peak (10:00-16:00)
Weekday PM peak (16:00-19:00)
Weekday Off-peak (19:00-07:00)
Weekend (all day, 00:00-23:59)
A breakdown by time periods is applicable to weekdays (Monday-Friday) only. Weekend demand data is for the whole day.
Please note that rear-door boarding was enforced during the Covid pandemic in April, May and June 2020 meaning we do not hold demand data during these months as this is largely incomplete. Also, there is no August 2023 data as the stops at Medawar Drive were temporarily closed from late July 2023 to early September 2023 due to roadworks.
