Request ID: FOI-4118-2324 Date published: 04 March 2024
You asked
Dear Transport for London,
On Thursday 8th Febuary, the pelican crossing in Hatch End (HA5 4HR) was switched off for most of the day. This is happening quite frequently. There were no barriers, or work - just a sign casually hung on each side with a traffic light with a strike through.
Why was the pelican crossing switched off, please? It's a difficult road to cross without the pelican crossing working - it helps crossing at traffic islands as well.

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 11 February 2024 asking for information about Hatch End - Pelican Crossing.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold the information you require. We apologise for the lack of service at this location - we can confirm the pelican crossing has been out of use three times since 1 December 2023. The signals were originally installed in 1999 and now require an upgrade therefore this site is on our Asset Renewal programme for 2024 – 2025.
The signals were reported as an “all out” from our monitoring system on 08/02/2024 at 10:22am. An engineer attended at 11:30 and found the “all out” was due to a faulty module in the controller. The engineer re-attended on 08/02/2024 at 23:30pm, replaced the module and restored traffic signals by 09/02/2024 at 00:25am.
If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.
