I would like to request the November 2023 data for the average bus occupancy of the capacity provided in respect of the busiest section of each TfL bus route in each direction. If this is not yet available please could you advise when it will be available.
Please include details of the busiest hour and location data for each bus route in each direction as well as the average bus occupancy of the capacity provided for that time, direction and location in percentage figures. Please provide separate tables for Monday-Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 11 February 2024 asking for information about November 2023 average bus occupancy levels - busiest section of each bus route in each direction by location, time and direction.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold the information you require. You asked: I would like to request the November 2023 data for the average bus occupancy of the capacity provided in respect of the busiest section of each TfL bus route in each direction. If this is not yet available please could you advise when it will be available. Please include details of the busiest hour and location data for each bus route in each direction as well as the average bus occupancy of the capacity provided for that time, direction and location in percentage figures. Please see attached the three files containing the busiest hour and location for each route and direction on an average weekday, Saturday and Sunday in November and December 2023. This includes the corresponding bus occupancy value (calculated as the hourly bus load divided by the hourly bus capacity) and the busiest hour and location is based on the maximum hourly load on each route and direction. Please note that as the busiest hour is based on the maximum hourly load, this does not mean this is equivalent to the highest bus occupancy. The data comes from the BUSTO 2023/24 P09 dataset which holds a snapshot of bus demand from mid-November 2023 to mid-December 2023, which is typically the busiest period of the year. The weekday, Saturday and Sunday data are representative of each day type and have been averaged across several dates throughout this period. We define weekday as the five days from Monday to Friday, so weekday data is typical for each of the five days. Please note the occupancy data for route E1 in direction 2 is incomplete for this period and therefore not included. Two new Superloop routes, SL1 and SL10, were launched during this period and occupancy data is provided for these two routes although this should not be seen as representative.
