Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 23 March 2020 asking for information about the recruitment campaign for the Network Information and Coordination Manager ref 031427.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.  I can confirm that we hold the information you require.  Your questions and our replies are as follows:

  1. What were the stages to this recruitment process for the role and what did each stage entail (Interview, Assessment Centre - and what that assessment centre/interview entailed)?

- Applications received and role specific pre-screening questions were applied with those that passed moving to the application review stage.

- Application review carried out by our HR recruitment department

- Hiring Manager conducts application review (this is where the named candidates application was declined)

-Assessment carried out with interview using competency based questions and an ‘unseen’ presentation (the candidate is given the presentation materials at the interview and has a set amount of time to prepare their answer, then deliver their answer)

Following this, hires were made.

  1. What were the competencies that were being assessed during the recruitment process?

-Communication and Influence

-Problem Solving + Decision Making

-Results Focus

-Safety Awareness

  1. When applications were reviewed, who reviewed them? (HR, Manager from the area of the business etc)

-Both (see answer 1)

  1. If a Competency Based Interview was used as part of the recruitment process - what was the benchmark?

-The benchmark with all competencies is always a score of 3

  1. If there were any other assessments as part of the recruitment process - what were they and what was the associated benchmark/scoring system.

-An unseen presentation was carried out - see answer 1 which consisted of having a select list of answers which the interview panel referred to, however this was not an exhaustive list and if the candidate provided additional answers which demonstrated understanding of the problem and assets involved, then this was also considered. The unseen presentation was suited for this campaign as we wanted to see how candidates react on the spot to a situation - something which is key for the role.
