FOI request detail

Bus Fares

Request ID: FOI-3859-2324
Date published: 27 February 2024

You asked

Could you let me know what the cost of freezing bus fares is for a year? It would be one of the component costs of the package announced below - and I assume this is very simple since it will be the number of single bus fares paid where there is no capping etc. https://www.london.gov.uk/mayor-steps-and-announces-hell-freeze-tfl-fares-year-easing-cost-millions-londoners

We answered

Our Ref:         FOI-3859-2324

Thank you for your request received on 31 January 2024 asking for information about the cost to freeze bus fares.

Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold the information you require.

In the absence of a known fares policy, during business planning, we assumed a four per cent rise on bus and tram fares in March 2024. The Mayor is funding the difference between this assumption and the planned policy by providing TfL with £37m.

Please let me know if this is not the information you are looking for. If you are not satisfied with this response please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely
