We answered

TfL Ref: FOI-3788-2324

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 22nd January 2024 asking for information about speed limit changes on the A20.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.

I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require. Your questions are answered in turn below:

Question 1) Please provide photographic evidence of "advance warning signs" on display on the A20 Eastbound, West of Sandy Lane to East of Cookham Road as required by The Code of Practice issued by the Secretary of State for Transport, Local Government and the Regions from October 2023 to 3rd January 2024.

Answer: TfL does not hold photographs of the advance warning signs on display on the A20, nor are we aware of a ‘Code of Practice’ requiring us to do so. Our signage conforms with the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions (TSRGD). This does not require us to hold ‘photographic evidence’ of the signs.

Question 2) Please provide photographic evidence of speed cameras clearly displayed (not hidden behind trees) with advance warning signs.

Answer: Please see the answer to question 1 above – TfL does not hold ‘photographic evidence’ of these speed cameras.

Question 3) Please provide evidence of any and all consultations regarding the implementation of the new speed restrictions on the road mentioned above.

Answer: No such consultation was undertaken nor was consultation required. The Temporary Traffic Regulation Order was implemented because of the likelihood of danger to the public and serious damage to the road due to flooding.

Question 4) Please provide proof of all accidents / incidents reported on the stretch of road as mentioned above during the previous 12 months.

Answer: TfL only receives details from the police of collisions that involve personal injury – i.e. we do not receive details of damage-only collisions There were no reported personal injury collisions for the 12 months to the end September 2023, which is the latest processed information we have from the police.  Note that our collisions data is published online as soon as it becomes available via our Road Danger Reduction Dashboard - this includes the London Collision Map on page 4 where it is possible to see collisions for a specific location.

Question 5) Please provide an accurate and up-to-date number of NIP's issued from October 2023 to current date.

Answer: TfL does not hold the requested information. NIPs for speeding are issued by the police. You may therefore wish to redirect your request to the Metropolitan Police, which can be done online here:
