You asked

Hi there, Previously you have listed all the energy that TFL purchase and use over the various parts of the network, what percentage of the electricity purchased is sourced from renwable sources? Kind regards,

We answered

TfL Ref: FOI-3743-2324

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 20 January 2024 asking for information about renewable resources.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Environmental Information Regulations and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold the information you require.

All TfL branded tube and rail services are electric and whilst some electricity is generated through on-site solar panels, the vast majority is delivered through the grid. TfL’s current supply arrangements do not specify any percentage of renewable electricity. However, in 2023, 43% of grid electricity supply came from renewable sources. TfL’s long-term energy procurement strategy is to ensure that all the electricity used is generated by 100% renewable sources by 2030. In February 2023, TfL launched its first Power Purchase Agreement procurement which was a major step for this ambition. This first tender aims to purchase approximately 10% of TfL’s required electricity from renewable energy sources and encourages the market to invest in increasing new renewable energy generation connected to the national grid.
Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely,
