The challenge asks groups of young people in Years 12 and 13 to work together to come up with an innovative solution to a real TfL challenge. Our innovation proposes to utilise the existing TfL Solar Bus Stop System, and we would like to request information about the system.
Can you please advise:

We answered
TfL Ref: 3743-1920
Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 14 February 2020 asking for information about solar bus stops in Tottenham.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require. please see our responses below:
- The number of Solar Bus Stops in Tottenham, North London (Postcodes: N15 and N17)
We can report on bus stop locations by Borough rather than postcode. We have provided you with the numbers for the borough of Harringey.
There are 10 bus shelters in Harringey that are powered by solar in addition to this there are 304 solar power bus stops (this is the bus stop flag sign only not the shelter with them)
- The total number of bus stops in Tottenham
There 458 bus stops in Harringey and 401 bus shelters
- If there are plans to install additional Solar Bus Stops in Tottenham, and if so indicative timing
We do not have any specific plans to install solar bus stops or shelters in the Tottenham area. Using solar to power bus shelters is only used when a suitable wired power source cannot be found. This is because the solar panels cannot provide enough power to operate technology such as countdown information and are also dependent on a certain amount of direct sunlight which is not always possible in built up areas.
If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.
Yours sincerely
