TfL Ref: 3689-1920

Thank you for your request received by us on 4 March 2020 asking for information about the number of journeys taken between 1 January 2020 to the date of your request across all our modes of transport.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold the information you require.

Please note in accordance with the FOI Act, requests may only incorporate information that is held at the time of the request and so we are unable to provide information from after the date when your request was received.

Please see below the information you requested below. As you will be aware, at the present time our services are for essential journeys by vital workers in the NHS and other critical services and our staff are working hard to support them and protect all Londoners. As of 1 April 2020, we have seen the number of people using Tube and rail services plummet by more than 94 percent compared to normal. Bus journeys across London are also down by 85 per cent.

Woolwich Ferry and River Bus services don’t report the journeys on a weekly basis, however we have provided the data by four-weekly reporting period in the below table.

(Please note that all figures are in ‘000s). You can derive an average weekly figure by dividing the numbers by 4.

Please note the Government has announced a series of measures to tackle the Coronavirus. It is essential for London, and in particular for all critical workers, that we continue to provide a safe transport network that enables them to make the journeys they need to.

In current circumstances, we are not able to answer FOI requests readily and we ask that you please do not make a request to us at present.

Answering FOI requests will require the use of limited resources and the attention of staff who could be supporting other essential activity. In any event, please note that our response time will be affected by the current situation.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely
