FOI – Scrappage Scheme
• Would you please let me know the number of business insured vans you expect to be scrapped under the scheme compared to business insured cars (if the scheme included the latter) or is it the case that you simply have no idea of the likely take up?
• Would you let me know the budget you have for scrappage, the value of scrappage claims under the scheme to date and when the scheme is likely to end?

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 30 March 2023 asking for information about the ULEZ scrappage scheme.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require. You asked:
• Would you please let me know the number of business insured vans you expect to be scrapped under the scheme compared to business insured cars (if the scheme included the latter) or is it the case that you simply have no idea of the likely take up? • Would you let me know the budget you have for scrappage, the value of scrappage claims under the scheme to date and when the scheme is likely to end?
Under the Vans and Minibus Scrappage Scheme (VAMSS), to be eligible all vans and minibuses have to be insured for business use (cars cannot be scrapped under this scheme). Under the Car and Motorcycle Scrappage Scheme (CAMSS), to be eligible cars and motorcycles must be insured – however we don’t record the type of insurance that they have – it just has to be current at the point that the application was submitted.
£110m is available for the current Scrappage Scheme - the funds are available on a ‘first come first served’ scheme, so the scheme will end when the money runs out. We have no way of knowing exactly the split between cars and vans that will be scrapped as it solely depends on behaviour and who applies over the coming months. Information on the value of scrappage claims is available on our website using the following link to our ‘‘Scrappage Scheme Factsheet’: https://content.tfl.gov.uk/scrappage-scheme-factsheet-apr2023.pdf. This factsheet will be updated monthly.
