Dear TFL, I would like to make a FOI request about the New Routemaster for London vehicles. 1 - What is the plan for the future of the vehicles? 2 - Will the current routes that operate with the New Routemaster for London vehicles continue to do so for the long-term future? 3 - Will any more New Routemaster for London vehicles or the 2 door version of the vehicle be ordered? 4 - As more routes are planned to go fully Electric in Central London, will this affect any routes that currently operate with the New Routemaster for London vehicles? E.g - will they convert to Conventional electric or continue as they are? 5 - Route 55/N55 is due to be tendered next year during Spring, is it likely that the routes will continue to operate using the New Routemaster for London vehicles or convert to conventional electric vehicles? 6 - Will a similar project to the New Routemaster for London vehicles be launched?

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 23 February 2020 asking for information about the New Routemaster for London buses.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.  I can confirm that we hold the information you require.  Your questions and our replies are as follows:

1 - What is the plan for the future of the vehicles? That they remain in use for the remainder of their economic life (anticipated to be circa 12-14 years total vehicle life).

2 - Will the current routes that operate with the New Routemaster for London vehicles continue to do so for the long-term future? There are no currently plans to change the routes which are operated by New Routemaster vehicles – but they are subject to change as operational requirements change.

3 - Will any more New Routemaster for London vehicles or the 2 door version of the vehicle be ordered? There are no plans for further vehicles to be ordered.

4 - As more routes are planned to go fully Electric in Central London, will this affect any routes that currently operate with the New Routemaster for London vehicles? E.g - will they convert to Conventional electric or continue as they are? There are currently no plans for such conversions in the near future.

5 - Route 55/N55 is due to be tendered next year during Spring, is it likely that the routes will continue to operate using the New Routemaster for London vehicles or convert to conventional electric vehicles? It is anticipated that Route 55/N55 will continue to be operated by New Routemaster vehicles.

6 - Will a similar project to the New Routemaster for London vehicles be launched? There are no plans for a similar project to be launched.
