How much is the extension fare for travelling outside the travelcard coverage?
Request ID: FOI-3569-1819
Date published: 11 April 2019
You asked
Could you please tell me how much is the 'extension fare' if I want to travel to a station which is not included in my travelcard?
For example, at off-peak times, the fare from south kensington to heathrow terminal 4 is £3.1, and the fare from earl's court to heathrow terminal 4 is £1.5. I have a travelcard for zone 1-2. What will be the 'extension fare' if I travel from south kensington to heathrow terminal 4? Is it the full fare for zone 1-6 which is £3.1 or just the fare for the zone 2-6 which is £1.5?

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 28th March 2019 asking for information about extension fares.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold the information you require.
Specifically you asked:
“Could you please tell me how much is the 'extension fare' if I want to travel to a station which is not included in my travelcard?
For example, at off-peak times, the fare from South Kensington to Heathrow Terminal 4 is £3.1, and the fare from Earl's Court to Heathrow Terminal 4 is £1.5. I have a travelcard for zone 1-2. What will be the 'extension fare' if I travel from South Kensington to Heathrow Terminal 4? Is it the full fare for zone 1-6 which is £3.1 or just the fare for the zone 2-6 which is £1.5?”.
Extension fares are the single Pay As You Go (PAYG) fare for travel in the zones for which the Travelcard held is not valid.
PAYG single fares can be found using the single fare finder on the TfL website via the following link:
https://tfl.gov.uk/fares/find-fares/tube-and-rail-fares/single-fare-finder
For the example of an off-peak journey from South Kensington to Heathrow Terminal 4, a Zones 1-2 Travelcard holder would pay an extension fare of £1.50, which is the off-peak Zones 2-6 PAYG single fare on London Underground.
If this is not the information you are looking for please do not hesitate to contact me.
Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.
