We answered

TfL Ref: FOI-3567-2223

Thank you for your request received by us on 28 March 2023, asking for information about speed limits on London’s roads.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.  I can confirm we hold some of the information you require.

TfL is responsible for London’s red routes, which account for only five per cent of roads in London. The rest of the roads fall under the jurisdiction of London boroughs.

As of February 2023, TfL provided a 20mph speed limit on 110km of its red route network across London. In March 2020, TfL introduced a 20mph speed limit on all roads within the central London Congestion Charging Zone, under phase 1 of the programme.

The Met Police enforces the speed limits. TfL is working with them to increase their capacity to take enforcement action against drivers and riders who speed.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.
