We answered

TfL Ref: FOI-3535-2324

Thank you for your request received by us on 4 January 2024, asking for information about subject access requests (SARs) for CCTV footage on the London Underground.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.  I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require. You asked:

Has London Underground refused subject access requests of platform or train CCTV due to excessive costs associated with this request?

The main reason for a refusal would be if the recording related to a criminal investigation in which case, we would refer the data subject to the Police.

There may be some requests that are excessive in terms of the number of locations, or physical data and duration, in which case we would normally speak to the data subject and see if the request can be narrowed down so that we can process it.

Otherwise, we don’t refuse SARs and always try to comply with all requests we receive.

Does the FOI limit of £450 apply to CCTV SAR also?

There is no charge for dealing with SARs.

Is there an assigned cost that LUL set for dealing with CCTV SARs?

Unfortunately, we don’t hold this information. We don’t record or have any way of calculating the cost of dealing with SARs.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright.

Yours sincerely
