FOI request detail

Rotherhithe Bridge - substantiation of bridge lifting numbers per day/month

Request ID: FOI-3516-1819
Date published: 18 April 2019

You asked

Following a meeting with TfL, it is believe the vertical lift bridge at 12m above MSHW would need to open 4-5 times per day. This is materially less than the numbers indicated in the Nov 2017 Consultation report. The assumption I have drawn is that you plan to restrict vessel passage and group vessels, thereby reducing the number of times the bridge will open. Please provide accurate data which is up to date, to support the revised estimate for the number of openings. Please also provide the raw data for the estimates used in the Nov 2017 consultation so I can perform a variance analysis. This is not commercially sensitive information. Please do not withhold this information using that as an excuse.

We answered

TfL Ref: FOI-3516-1819

Thank you for your Freedom of Information request of 22nd March 2019 asking for information about the Rotherhithe to Canary Wharf crossing.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold the information you require. Specifically you asked:

The data used to estimate the number of openings is attached as requested (note that “AIS” stands for “Automatic Identification System” and “HOT” stands for “Height of Tide”). The same data was used for the estimates given in the November 2017 consultation, albeit with a reduced sample size (based upon what was available at the time the report was published – note that the data in the attached document now goes up to 04/05/2018). Our current estimates of opening frequencies are based upon the full year’s worth of this vessel data. We continue to refine these estimates and our latest work on this will be presented as part of the next stage of consultation.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely,
