Request ID: FOI-3493-2223 Date published: 17 April 2023
What are the extra benefits to wages that tfl employees have (all modes of transport)? Do these benefits apply solely to employees or are they also extended to their families? Are these benefits considered as taxable? Are they included when calculating PAYE? What jobs within tfl are reserved for internal promotion and not subject to external recruitment?
Our ref: FOI-3493-2223/GH Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 23 March 2023 asking for information about extra privileges to salary and recruitment. Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold the information you require. Please find attached a document showing the benefits available to TfL staff, many of these are long-standing benefits for employees’ and a low-cost way of attracting and retaining staff. In relation to staff and nominee travel passes, they have a very low-cost impact because the number of journeys is an extremely small proportion of the total number of journeys made every day, meaning very little lost income and no additional services needing to be operated.
We have highlighted where the benefits are extended to dependants / children, (subject to age etc), and also the areas where there are tax implications. Vacancies are advertised according to the business needs of the relevant department – therefore there are no specific jobs which are reserved for internal promotion. If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for some reason, please do not hesitate to contact me. If you are not satisfied with this response please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.
