We answered

Our Ref:         FOI-3468-1920

Thank you for your request received on 12 February 2020 asking for information about violent crimes on buses in Harrow and the Night Tube.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm we hold some of the information you require.

Our transport network is a safe, low crime network, with eleven million passengers travelling on our network every day with very few of them ever experiencing or witnessing crime. For every one million passenger journeys, there are nine reported crimes, with the majority of these being theft offences. We fund more than 2,500 officers across the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS), British Transport Police (BTP) and the City of London Police (CoLP). They police London's transport network to tackle crime and antisocial behaviour, and make you feel safer when travelling in London.

Between January 2014 to December 2019, there were 676 incidents on buses that we recorded under the offence ‘Violence against a person’ in the London Borough of Harrow. These include incidents that happened on a bus, at a bus stop or were an incident may have started on a bus but resulted in an offence in the street. Violence against the person offences include a range of offences, ranging from minor offences such as harassment and common assault, to more serious offences such actual bodily harm and grievous bodily harm. This is the most recent data we hold. Please note that bus crime data is supplied by the MPS.

The Night Tube has been operating since August 2016. Between its opening weekend and 16 February 2020 there have been 711 incidents  recorded as violent offences, these are the offences we collate for the numbers in our Crime and Incidents Bulletin (https://tfl.gov.uk/corporate/publications-and-reports/crime-and-incident-bulletins). Please note that Night Tube crime data is provided by the BTP.

Please note that the above data has been provided to us by the MPS and BTP respectively, it is therefore not live. Requests made to them for the same information may differ as offences may be re-categorized as more information becomes available.

If this is not the information you are looking for please feel free to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely
