You asked

Black cab drivers keep getting caught fraudulently using disabled badges. https://twitter.com/MPSRTPC/status/994620819430166528 https://twitter.com/MPSRTPC/status/978958773116133376 Are you able to confirm what action was taken against these two drivers or say how many other convictions there have been?

We answered

Our Ref:         FOI-3407-1819

Thank you for your request received on 13 March 2019 asking for further information about the misuse of disabled badges by taxi drivers.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm we hold some of the information you require.

We are still considering the two drivers referred to in your request with a view to reviewing their licences and deciding on an appropriate course of action. This could be a warning or a revocation or suspension of their licence.

As previously advised, Blue Badge misuse is not recorded as a specific category in our reasons for a licensing decision being made (i.e. a warning or a suspension/revocation). Therefore we would need to manually review over 23,000 taxi driver files in order to provide figures on licensing decisions where we have been notified that this has taken place. Prosecutions for Blue Badge misuse are carried out by either the police or the appropriate local authority, you may therefore wish to direct this part of your query to these relevant bodies.

If this is not the information you are looking for please feel free to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely
