Bus closures on the Canary Wharf estate and bus stop H
Request ID: FOI-3395-2324 Date published: 18 January 2024
You asked
For the last few months parts of the Canary Wharf estate have been closed to bus traffic, it seems like every 2nd weekend there are no buses
Due to the way buses travel through the estate this can mean extensive diversions for passengers
D3, D8, N550, N277, 135, D7, 277 bus routes are affected
How often does this happen (over the last 2 years or similar time period)?
How long are the interruptions for? on average or in total
Does TfL have any agreement with Canary Wharf Group to minimise road disruption (as these are private roads)?
Also why are no southboundTfL buses allowed to stop at bus stop H (the closest stop to Waitrose, the largest grocery store at Canary Wharf), given the fall in the working population after COVID (but an increasing residential population to the south)?

As the Canary Wharf Estate is a private road there is no legal powers TfL Buses have with regards to the road network here. However, we have regular discussions with Canary Wharf Management and notifications are received with regards to any closures, as such we make the necessary arrangements for buses.
In relations to Stop H, this is dependent on what part of the estate is closed and how the buses are diverted.
If you are not satisfied with this response please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.
