under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 please advise of any actions taken by Transport for London (TfL) to work with, or assist, Google Maps to ensure that any route planned or advised by Google Maps while navigating in the Greater London Area makes it clear to the user that they are about to enter, or will traverse, the London Congestion Charge area.
We answered
TfL Ref: FOI-3367-2223
Thank you for your request which we received on 8 March 2023, asking for information about TfL assisting Google Maps with navigating around the Congestion Charge zone.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold the information you require.
TfL provides data to Google and other 3rd parties, to help them map the Congestion Charge and Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) boundaries. Google Maps already indicates driving routes that are subject to ‘tolls’ and flags when a user will encounter the ULEZ. Please see the attached example.
If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.
Yours sincerely
