Request ID: FOI-3320-2223 Date published: 17 March 2023
You asked
Dear TfL
Can you please provide an update on the status of Surrey Canal Road station.
Has there been any progress in securing funding for construction of the station, since work was paused in July 2022?
Is there any process ongoing to secure developer contributions to fund the station, including nearby sites on the other side of the borough boundary in Southwark (on Ilderton Road)? Many big housing developments are planned or under construction there.

The proposed Surrey Canal station was developed up to the stage of Concept Design when the scheme was paused in July 2022 due to funding uncertainty.
The Government Department for Levelling Up Homes and Communities (DLUHC) are undertaking a nationwide review with respect to the prioritisation of the Housing Infrastructure Fund (HIF). This is already funding a range of transport schemes which support the provision of new housing including the upgrade of Surrey Quays station, additional train services on the Overground and new rolling stock on the DLR. The DLUHC HIF review is expected to conclude early in 2023/24 and is envisaged to confirm whether funding for Surrey Canal station would be available.
Additionally funding sources from within TfL and other stakeholders are being investigated, including property developers.
Updates will be published on our website when available.
