Follow-on from: 2975-1819 : Noise conditions for Victoria line drivers
Request ID: FOI-3311-1819
Date published: 03 April 2019
You asked
I hadn’t specifically asked for the noise in the Pandrol sections but thank you for this. Could you send me the readings for the other sections of line, more specifically for the other sections of the northbound and southbound tunnels between Oxford Street and Warren Street?
Thank you for the links. These indicate that Patrick McNaughton’s statement regarding ‘close to the limit’ is incorrect, and that all locations exceed the 87db exposure limit. Is this correct?
Could you also provide the response to the last part of the question “.. the actions being taken…”?
We answered
TfL Ref: 3311-1819
Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 5 March 2019.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Environmental Information Regulations and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold the information you require. You asked for: noise reading reports for the other sections of the northbound and southbound tunnels between Oxford Street and Warren Street and the actions being taken to reduce the noise.
The attached report identifies that the average noise levels on the line end to end are 84 dB(A) based on a risk assessment in November 2018.
We grind rails at regular intervals and have trialled putting softer rail under the noisiest sites. We are also committed to developing rail damping solutions, which we aim to trial this year.
A more detailed Noise Risk Assessment is scheduled for April with the report to be published by the end of May.
If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours sincerely
