Tube Platform Announcements

Request ID: FOI-3300-1819
Date published: 21 March 2019

You asked

I am requesting a CD of the the Jubilee and Northern and Piccadilly lines platform announcements played at various stations across the network most ex tube lines managed stations. I am fully aware these are made up of fragments. Some example of the announcements "Piccadilly Line, the next train to Arnos Grove, will arrive in 2 minutes, next station, Hyde Park Corner" "Piccadilly Line, the train now approaching is to Arnos Grove, please stand back from the platform edge" These announcements are also played at stations like Farringdon on Circle, Hammersmith and City Lines and Metropolitan lines. These announcements are produced by Ketech (previously known as Ditra) who also produce the London Overground ones (onboard announcements and station announcements) that you often send out. They are not produced by Global Services Limited which means that the commercial interest exception does not apply.

We answered

FOI Request – FOI-3300-1819

Thank you for your email received on 5 March 2019, asking for London Underground announcements for Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly lines.

Your request has been processed in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and TfL’s information access policy. I can confirm we do hold the information you require.

Please find the enclosed CD containing the London Underground announcements.

The Northern line audio files contain historical as well as current announcements. You will note the Piccadilly line announcements are supplied as PCC files which may need specialist software to play them. This format is the only version we currently have available.

Please also note that while the Jubilee and Piccadilly announcements are recorded as full statements specifically for each station, Northern line announcements are recorded as segmented phrases joined into full sentences by the train management system (TMS).

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for some reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the enclosed information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely
