Thank you for your email received by Transport for London (TfL) on 27 February 2019.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.  I can confirm we do hold the information you require. You asked:

I live in a property whose garden is overlooked by one of your CCTV towers on the Hammersmith control centre. In addition to the unsightly view of the tower, i have concerns about the central 360 degree camera and it’s invasion of my privacy. Please respond with detail of the scope of the camera and whether an alternative arrangement can be found.

We have viewed the CCTV camera in question, and can confirm that it has a built in ‘privacy masking’ which means that the camera view only shows that of the control centre fence line and inner compound of the control centre. Where a part of the view could show a view of the neighbouring gardens, the privacy masking obscures this part of the view with a solid grey box. There is also considerable foliage, trees and bushes behind the fence so there cannot be any invasion of privacy.

The camera overlooking this area is a moveable camera, however, as the camera moves so does the privacy mask to ensure that privacy is maintained. You may also be interested to know that the camera’s purpose is to record images of the compound and does not record images of neighbouring properties.

In response to your request, the above is the scope of the camera in question.
