TfL Ref: FOI-3243-1819
Thank you for your refined request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 27 February 2019 asking about our taxi and private hire compliance operations. Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. You asked for: the amount of foot patrols/checks carried out broken down by the smallest possible area (e.g. borough/other region) from 2013 to the most recent possible data.
The system we use to record compliance checks does not contain a field to record location by postcode, area district or borough. We can however provide the total number of checks carried out per year for London as a whole.
Between 1 Jan 2013 and 27 Feb 2019, 717,337 private hire drivers and vehicles were checked by Transport for London Compliance Officers. Over the same time period we conducted 141,199 taxi driver and vehicle checks.
Taxi and private hire drivers and operators are tasked with transporting passengers safely and compliance inspections allow us to determine and ensure they are competent to do so.
Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.
Yours sincerely
