Our ref: FOI-3222-2324/GH
Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 7 December 2023 asking for information about the traffic signals at the junction of Hall Lane and Walthamstow Avenue.
Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold the information you require.
The traffic signal ( controlling traffic going towards Texaco petrol station) at the junction of Hall Lane and Walthamstow Ave - opposite Cork Tree trading estate - has been hit by a car again today.
How many times has this sign been damaged in the last five years? There have been 11 incidents at this location, nine of which relate to pole15 on the centre island.
What’s the approximate cost to TfL to repair the signals over this time? Approximate costs incurred so far at this site are £42k but some incidents are still under investigation.
Does TfL routinely claim from the drivers’ insurance companies? The incident on 7 December 2023 is still under investigation with enquiries to the Metropolitan Police. The previous two incidents are ongoing claims and four of the remainder have already been recovered. The remaining four were of minor impact where we were unable to identify the party responsible.
TfL does routinely claim from the insurance companies of drivers, or where they are uninsured, the Motor Insurers Bureau, or anyone else who negligently damages our assets provided their identity is known. TfL actively obtains those details by making enquiries with the police or other parties as appropriate.
How much money has been recovered from insurance companies in the same period? The amount recovered is fluid as it depends upon the number of assets damaged, the extent of the damage and repair costs, as well as whether the negligent party can be traced.
