Thank you for your request received on 24 February asking for information about the Rotherhithe to Canary Wharf Crossing Project.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm we do hold the information you require.

A public consultation, held in November 2017, showed there was huge public support for this scheme at the last consultation, with 93 per cent of over 6,000 respondents supporting a new crossing, and 85 per cent supporting our preferred bridge option.

We received a lot of detailed feedback and has been using this to develop the scheme, as well as engaging directly with key stakeholders, such as the Port of London Authority and the boroughs on either side of the river to work through major issues of the bridge alignment, landing points, opening mechanism and operating procedures. We have a number of specialist advisors supporting it with this stage of work. This includes Atkins who are providing engineering and architectural services and who have appointed Knight Architects as a sub-contractor. Other suppliers include Mott MacDonald (environment), Marico (marine/navigation) and Quod (town planning).

We continue to work through matters raised during the consultation to make sure our proposals best reflect the needs of users of the new crossing and the river, as well as the local communities. It intends to launch a full public consultation of our latest proposals and more detailed information on a preferred crossing during Spring 2019.

We use a 13-period financial reporting cycle and its financial years run from 1 April every year to 31 March the following year. Therefore the cumulative cost at the dates requested has been based on the closest TfL reporting period.

As stated in our response to FOI-2767-1819, the cumulative cost to 5 April 2018 was £3.6 million. This is based on Period 13, 2017/18 which closed on 31 March 2018.

Cumulative cost to 27 November 2018 was £8.7 million. This is based on Period 9, 2018/19 which closed on 08 December 2018.

As previously advised, the cumulative cost to 31 January 2019 was £9.9 million. This is based on Period 11, 2018/19 which closed on 02 February 2019.

Cumulative cost to 28 February 2019 was £10.8 million. This is based on Period 12, 2018/19 which closed on 02 March 2019.
