Date published: 08 March 2019

You asked

In the Five Years before 30th November 2017, how many other wheelchair-users were reported to have fallen off the side of the ramp while getting out of a bus, either in London or elsewhere in the UK?

We answered

Our ref: FOI-3170-1819/GH

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 19 February 2019 asking for information about wheelchair-users who have fallen off bus ramps.

Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold the information you require.

Our records show that between December 2012 and November 2017, a total of 32 incidents where wheelchair users fell whilst using the bus ramp to exit or enter buses were reported. Of these incidents, 15 resulted in injuries. There is no specific field within our reporting system to indicate specifically falling off the side of the ramp, so the incidents included are all cases where a fall by a wheelchair user occurred.  To ensure accurate reporting of these figures, a key word search method was also used to identify the incidents, as well as instances where they were categorised as “fall from ramp”.

If this is not the information you are looking for please do not hesitate to contact me.

If you are not satisfied with this response please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely
