Our Ref:         FOI-3163-1819

Thank you for your request received on 19 February 2019 asking for information about advertisements on route 178.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm we do hold the information you require. You asked:

1. How much has been spent on advertisements promoting the conversion of bus route 178 to a double-decker vehicles, either in costs to hire advertising space or in terms of the revenue denied to TfL/its advertising providers because the space is not being used by a third party client.

Could you also please send me a list of the locations where the advertisements for the 178 have been placed.

TfL spent £8,283.02 on the media to access poster sites for bus route 178 to raise awareness of the increased capacity on the route following conversion from single to double decker buses as awareness of the increased capacity will help increase usage. These poster sites were available to any advertiser wishing to buy media on the open market so no revenue was denied to TfL or the media owner.

The attached pdf contains a list of the poster site locations.

2. Which other routes, since 1 January 2018, have had specific advertising campaigns such as the one above, and how much has been spent since then on these route-specific campaigns?

The 291 route is the only other route where there has been a campaign to increase awareness of the increased capacity of single routes. £1123.13 was spent on this campaign.
