FOI request detail

London Overground - Mildmay Map Error

Request ID: FOI-3120-2425
Date published: 15 January 2025

You asked

Why was the decision taken to withdraw the September 2024 tube map with Mildmay error? What was the cost of that decision?

We answered

Our Ref:        FOI-3120-2425

Thank you for your request received on 30 December 2024 asking for information about the Mildmay line on the TfL network map.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold the information you require.

The introduction of six new line names and colours on the London Overground was one of the largest customer focused projects we have ever undertaken, helping make the network easier to navigate for millions of customers every year. TfL needed to update around 6,000 station wayfinding signs, Tube maps, station digital screens, onboard train information, Journey Planner and TfL Go.

Part of the updated customer information included revised pocket Tube maps to support the changes. Unfortunately, an error was not spotted during the design stage of this map which led to a number of these being printed that included a mistake. The accuracy of customer information is really important, so this unfortunate oversight led to a decision being made to reprint the map. The cost of replacing the maps was £94,000 which is included in the overall project cost which is currently within agreed budgets.

If this is not the information you are looking for please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely
