The materials of Oyster Card
Request ID: FOI-3103-1920
Date published: 24 January 2020
You asked
Could you provide the exact kind of plastic and the materials you use to produce Oyster Cards?
We answered
TfL Ref: 3103-1920
Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 15 January 2020 asking for information about the materials used to produce Oyster cards.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act and our information access policy.
Unfortunately we do not hold the information you have requested. When we carry out our procurement we do not specify the plastics and materials used to make Oyster cards. We have a specification we issue to suppliers which sets out the card dimensions, security requirements, type of chip and its position, and where reference numbers (batch and serial numbers) should be positioned but not the materials they need to use during their manufacture. We can advise that the specification of the chip used in the card is a 2K Desfire chip.
Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.
Yours sincerely
