We answered

Our ref: FOI-3084-1819/GH

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 14 February 2019 asking for information about Walthamstow underground station.

Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold the information you require.

1. How many days in the past year has the lift in Walthamstow Central Station been faulty?

2. How many days in the past year has the lift been working and available to the public to use?

3. What is the plan to reduce the amount to time that the list is out of use due to recurring faults?

Walthamstow lift 1: ( Bus Garage to Passage way )

This is a hydraulic lift that has experienced problems with ram oil seals. After attempts to replace the seal further damage to the ram was discovered.

Work to rectify these problems was completed on 22 February 2019, and since then there have been no service outages.

The two problems outlined above caused this lift to be out of service for 6 Days (11th – 16th January), and then 22 Days (1st – 22nd February).

This lift was available for use 299 days out of 364 (Stations closed on Christmas day). Therefore there were 65 days / part days which it was unavailable.

Walthamstow Lift 2: (Passage to Circulating Area)

This platform lift has higher levels of use than it was designed for and our engineering department is looking into where it sits priority wise for replacement.

In the last year (364 working days), there were 29 call outs for faults with this lift, however only 17 were recorded as out of service. Again it should be noted that these only confirm that the lift was out of order for some time during the day, and not necessarily for the entire day.
