Signaling Operated Manually

Request ID: FOI-3075-1819
Date published: 04 March 2019

You asked

I request the following details in regards to signalling, and staff Does the London Underground network still have any manually operated points in the network where staff members have to be employed to work in signal boxes near to points and signals and either manually push buttons or pull leavers? This is opposed to signalling remotely operated by electronic signals sent from engineers in the line control centres or automated by ATO systems. This data does not have to be provided. If the answer is yes, then please could you list number of manually operated signals, locations of on site signal boxes in use manually and number of staff employed for this role.

  • Rickmansworth

  • Rayners Lane

  • Harrow on the Hill

  • Edgware Road

  • Hammersmith

On the District line at:

  • Whitechapel

  • Barking

  • Upminster

  • Tower Hill

In addition most depots also have manual point operation. These are at the following locations:

Stonebridge Park

Northumberland

London Road

Ealing

Acton

Ruislip

Upminster

Lille Bridge

Stratford

Cockfosters

Northfields

Hainault

Golders Green
