FOI request detail

Step free stations

Thanks for clarifying this. I couldn't actually find the references to the group of stations including Boston Manor, North Ealing etc in the previous FOI but I don't think they're even on the Crossrail network - so if they're not affected by Crossrail that's fine. I just had one final question - in the new, clarified spreadsheet you sent me, under the TfL rail tab there's the table which says 'March 2021 statistics'. And in that it says 94% of stations are due to be step free along the route, but two are not. Which two are these? And why not? I was under the impression 100% of the Crossrail network was going to be step free - is this no longer the case?

We answered

TfL Ref: FOI-3065-1920

Thank you for your email of 9 January asking for information about step-free access to the Crossrail network.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.

Specifically you asked:

I just had one final question - in the new, clarified spreadsheet you sent me, under the TfL rail tab there's the table which says 'March 2021 statistics'. And in that it says 94% of stations are due to be step free along the route, but two are not. Which two are these? And why not? I can confirm that we hold the information you require.

Having checked with relevant colleagues I can confirm that 100% of Crossrail stations are expected to be step-free when the line opens fully. Those stations currently open under TfL Rail which require further works to make them step-free are expected to be completed by the end of this year. The stations in the central section will be step-free ready for the opening of the Elizabeth line in summer 2021. The 94% figure quoted in the spreadsheet sent with your previous FOI request was an error, for which I apologise.

More information about the upgrades of stations on the Crossrail network can be found online here (use the menu to the right of the page to find information specific to each station on different sections of the route):
