We answered

TfL Ref: 3059-1819

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 12 February 2019 asking for information about a noise survey on the DLR and a change to the automated station announcements following on from a customer services enquiry.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.  I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require.  The information you have asked for is below:

a)    the dates the noise survey took place, what routes were surveyed and how frequently

b)    the results of the survey

We do not hold this information as it was not a survey in the traditional sense. Instead of assessing all vehicles at the same time as a one-off, we are updating our continuous maintenance work to ensure the ready to Depart’ chime is assessed on each vehicle every time it reaches the maintenance schedule. This is being still being validated and we are currently finalising this.

c) the date of when the next AVIS update is taking place

The AVIS update has not yet taken place due to the revised start of Elizabeth Line services to Autumn 2019.

d) exactly what changes to the automated station announcements are taking place in this update

We will be adding Elizabeth line interchanges, adding visual messages for main interchanges (currently only audio messages) and adding local landmarks such as the QE Olympic Park and Emirates Airline. Additionally smaller changes are being made to other messages to make them more clear and concise.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely
