FOI request detail

zone 1 paper tickets purchased during January 2019

Request ID: FOI-3052-1920
Date published: 24 January 2020

You asked

Hi there, I would like to know how many single paper tickets were purchased for zone 1 to zone 1 journeys during 2019. As long as it does not cause the request to exceed the time limit, could this be broken down my month. Also, so long as it does not cause the request to exceed the time limit, could you list the 10 most popular journeys made using single paper tickets?

We answered

TfL Ref: 3052-1920

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 13 January 2020 asking for information about single paper ticket numbers purchased for travel within zone 1 during 2019.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act and our information access policy. You asked: how many single paper tickets were purchased for zone 1 to zone 1 journeys during 2019 broken down by month if possible. You also asked for: list the 10 most popular journeys made using single paper tickets.

Unfortunately we do not hold the information you have requested. We know how many printed tickets are used to enter or exit at any given station, but we do not know what journey is made as no data is recorded to link the entry and exit information. Furthermore, we cannot provide information on journeys made wholly within Zone 1 as printed tickets purchased for such a journey are valid for journeys from Zone 1 to Zone 2 or 3 as well, so this sales data does not exist.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely
