Request ID: FOI-3038-2223 Date published: 23 February 2023
You asked
> Since the C9 Cycleway is described as a Temporary Scheme in all LB Hounslow publications and is the subject of further consultation, there has to be an assumption that if the local population do not want the scheme to remain, or if it has been shown to fail in meeting the original safety and investment objectives or, like Euston Road, it has an unacceptable impact upon other traffic, public transport and the environment, then all roads, including Chiswick High Road, will have to be restored to their original condition and with no bi-directional cycleway?
>
> Given that this has to be a real possibility and cannot be ruled out by TfL, my request is for copies of any reports on work that has been done by TfL to prepare for the removal of the cycleway and information about the budget for funds that have been set aside for this eventuality. If there is no budget, then the public can only assume that there is a prior assumption of permanence within TfL policy, despite the current consultation process?
We answered
TfL Ref: 3038-2223
Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 15 January 2023 asking for information about CS9 restoration costs.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.
We do not hold the information you have requested - no reports into the potential retention, amendment or removal have been produced because no decisions have been taken on the longer term future of Cycleway 9 along Chiswick High Road.
Public consultation on the Cycleway 9 experimental scheme is open until 3 April 2023. The decisions on the future of the Cycleway 9 scheme would be made by the Highway Authority, London Borough of Hounslow. In reaching their decision, they will take into account the outcomes of the consultations as well as the monitoring data currently being collected. The costs of any changes deemed by the London Borough of Hounslow to be required to Cycleway 9, including removal, would be determined once the details of Hounslow’s decision is known. TfL’s latest Business Plan includes a provision for an average of £150m per year to be invested in our Healthy Streets programme which includes work to existing and proposed Cycleways. https://content.tfl.gov.uk/2023-business-plan-acc.pdf
