We answered
Our Ref: FOI-2983-2324
Thank you for your request received on 22 November 2023 asking for information about the charity, Protection Approaches.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act and our information access policy. I can confirm we do hold the information you require.
We believe that everyone has the right to travel on its network without fear of abuse or intimidation. A hate crime is any crime perceived by the victim or any other person to be motivated by hostility on the grounds of race, religion, sexual orientation, disability or gender identity. London TravelWatch’s Personal Security Report (2021) shows that 63 per cent of passengers would feel more confident in intervening in an incident on public transport if they had more information on how to help. The training, run by Protection Approaches, explores what it means to be an active bystander or ally, how to safely stand up for victims and what people can do if they are the victim. More than 2,000 Londoners have already benefitted from the training, with participants giving consistently positive feedback and reporting increased confidence in dealing with hate crime incidents. Please note that we do not fund Protection Approaches, we partnered with them for this training and contributed £4550 towards the costs. If this is not the information you are looking for please do not hesitate to contact me.
Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.
Yours sincerely
