Hope you're well. I am a City University Economics undergraduate, conducting a project based on electric bikes and scooters. One of the tasks requires to find the costs needed to manufacture the e-bikes and e-scooters. I was wondering if you could us give us an estimation of the manufacturing cost of the e-bikes and e-scooters. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated, sorry for any inconvenience.

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on16 November 2023 asking for information about electric bikes (e-bikes) and electric scooters (e-scooters).
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act and our information access policy. I can confirm we hold the information you require.
The current cost of a manual bike is £1,240.59. However, the information you have requested for e-bikes and e-scooters is subject to a statutory exemption to the right of access to information under section 43(2) of the FOI Act – prejudice to commercial interests.
In this instance the section 43(2) exemption has been applied as disclosure would be likely to prejudice our commercial interests as well as our suppliers. Prejudice would be likely to occur as disclosure of these costs could hinder our supplier’s ability to work with manufacturers to negotiate the best value for money on our behalf for similar procurement services in the future.
The use of this exemption is subject to an assessment of the public interest in relation to the disclosure of the information concerned. We recognise the need for openness and transparency by public authorities, but in this instance the public interest in ensuring that we can benefit the public purse by achieving the best valuefor public money outweighs the general public interest in increasing transparency of our processes.
