Art on the Underground invites artists to create projects for London’s Underground that are experienced by millions of people each day, changing the way people experience their city. Incorporating a range of artistic media from installation, sculpture, digital and performance, to prints and custom Tube map covers, the programme produces critically acclaimed projects that are accessible to all, and which draw together the city’s diverse communities. Since its inception, Art on the Underground has presented commissions by UK-based and international artists allowing the programme to remain at the forefront of contemporary debate on how art can shape public space.

The costs to commission ‘Labyrinth’, covering all 270 unique artworks, totalled £246,248. This cost covers site surveys, artist fee, design development, artworking costs, fabrication and installation costs across all 270 sites. It should be noted that ‘Labyrinth’ is a permanent artwork, and will remain in stations on a permanent basis. An associated public engagement programme was delivered through funding from Arts Council England.

We do not hold a breakdown per station, however the artwork is across 270 sites, should you wish to estimate a cost per station based on the total figure.
