We answered

TfL Ref: 2973-1819

Thank you for your email received by us on 1 February 2019 asking for information about advice given by Secretary of State for Transport, Chris Grayling to Transport for London (TfL) concerning yellow box junctions.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act and our information access policy.

I can advise that we do not hold the information you have requested as the Secretary of State has not issued any specific guidance to TfL related to yellow box junctions.

Signs and road markings prescribed for use on a highway are set out in the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2016. There are no advance warning signs prescribed for use in conjunction with yellow box junction ‘criss-cross’ markings. To provide a sign that is not prescribed by the Statutory Regulations, or specially authorised by the Secretary of State for Transport would be unlawful. There are no special authorisations issued to TfL by the Secretary of State for Transport for this purpose.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely
