Request for information on representations made about the 170 Westbound Bus Service

Request ID: FOI-2948-1718
Date published: 08 February 2018

You asked

Dear Sir/Madam, Many residents in St Mary’s Park, Battersea, were angered to find out that the 170 Westbound Bus service was discontinued along Battersea Church Road and Lombard Road in mid-December with no prior warnings being given by TFL. Local political activists have claimed that their representatives have made representations to TFL asking for the restoration of this service. I would like to understand what written and spoken communications have been received by TFL calling for the return of the 170 Westbound Bus Service along Battersea Church Road and Lombard Road from the people named above, since the 14th December 2017. I would like to understand the number of communications that were made and the content of those communications.

We answered

TfL Ref: FOI-2948-1718

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 15 January 2018 asking for information about representations.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.

Our Director of Bus Operations was presented with a 700-name petition at our main office in Southwark on 12 January 2018. As you may be aware, the issues that were raised have since been resolved.

However, in accordance with TfL’s obligations under the Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA) we are not obliged to confirm not deny whether we hold the information requested, as this is covered by section 40(2) of the FOI Act. This is because disclosure of this personal data would be a breach of the DPA, specifically the first principle of the DPA which requires all processing of personal data to be fair and lawful. It would not be fair to disclose this personal information when the individuals have no expectation it would be disclosed and TfL has not satisfied one of the conditions of Schedule 2 of the Data Protection Act which would make the processing ‘fair’.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for some reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely
