Thank you for your request of 30th January 2019 asking for information about the passenger loading figures for the RV1 bus route over the last thee years, and the funding/subsidy for the same route.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold the information you require.
The RV1 is currently one of central London’s emptiest bus routes with the average bus having just eight people on it. Fewer people are using the route RV1 than ever before, with 64 per cent fewer journeys being made due to a gradual decline since 2009. The passenger numbers for this route are provided in the attached spreadsheet, from Period 1 of 2016/17 though to Period 10 of 2018/19. The total cost of operating the RV1 is about £3.3 million per year. Fares revenue is about £650,000 per year, meaning there is a subsidy of £2.6 million a year for the route.
