Freedom of Information request - Euston escalator and entrance closures

Request ID: FOI-2902-2425
Date published: 19 December 2024

You asked

Dear Transport for London, Please can you provide me with how often each escalator at Euston underground station has closed, and the reason for the closure and the length of the closure. This is regarding both the triple bank of escalators from the entrance to the gateline, and the other 4 banks of escalators beyond the gateline. Additionally please can you provide with how often the Tube entrance/ exit to the street has been closed, the reason for the closure, if customers were directed via the Overground exit or up the stairs by the lift, and if it was closed for entrance, exit or both directions. Please can you provide this data for the last 3 years. If this would cost too much for an FOI request, then please provide the date over a reduce time period up to the present.

We answered

Our ref: FOI-2902-2425

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 09 December 2024 asking for information about escalators at Euston station.

Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy.

I can confirm that we do hold the information you require. Please find the attached spreadsheet for the requested information.

During any works that may affect customer access and exiting the Station, we communicate with our customers through various channels, including TfL social media, TfL Go, the TfL Website, visible signage, and direct interactions from our colleagues. We provide information on peak footfall times and how to avoid queues, such as advising customers to use Warren Street for the Northern Line (Charing Cross branch) and Victoria Line, or King's Cross St. Pancras for the Northern Line (Bank branch) and Victoria Line.

We have also advised customers arriving via London Overground that the subway link to the Underground ticket hall may be closed. Clear directions are provided on accessing and exiting the Tube, and on avoiding queues, including alternative routes before reaching Euston.

If you are not satisfied with this response, please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely,
