Thank you for your request received on 10 January 2018 asking for information about Senior Project Engineer salaries.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm we do hold the information you require.
Please note, Senior Project Engineers are aligned to a generic Project Engineer Job Description therefore the attached includes anyone with a position title rather than job title of Senior Project Engineer and any variation according to their discipline e.g. Senior Project Engineer Civils or Senior Project Engineer Bridges and Structures. There were a number of part time staff included in the dataset therefore we have used their full-time employment salary.

Please note that in accordance with TfL’s obligations under the Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA) where there are five or fewer this information has been withheld as these persons could be identified, as required by section 40(2) of the FOI Act. This is because disclosure of this personal data would be a breach of the DPA, specifically the first principle of the DPA which requires all processing of personal data to be fair and lawful. It would not be fair to disclose this personal information when the individuals have no expectation it would be disclosed and TfL has not satisfied one of the conditions of Schedule 2 of the Data Protection Act which would make the processing ‘fair’.
This exemption to the right of access to information is an absolute exemption and not subject to an assessment of whether the public interest favours use of the exemption.
With regards to contract type, we do not record this information in a reportable manner. However we have looked at the terms and conditions (T&Cs) of their contracts – these are categorised as Rationalised, Non rationalised, Tubelines and former Metronet Rail (FMR). In general, non-rationalised, Tubelines and FMR are London Underground (LU) and rationalised are TfL. However this is not exclusive as some employees may have TUPE transferred.
Please also note that the data above includes four people that are on secondment into the Senior Project Engineer position. When people go on secondment, they retain their substantive grade and salary but may receive Higher Duty Pay.
If this is not the information you are looking for please feel free to contact me.
Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.
Yours sincerely
