Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 9th November 2023 asking for information about the 533 bus route.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act  and our information access policy.

Specifically you asked:

Please can I have the percentage of 533 buses - broken down by month- that left on time from Hammersmith bus station from Aug 2022 until Aug 2023.”

I can confirm that we hold the information you require, which is provided in the attached spreadsheets. Please note the following:

The data is presented by calendar month between 01 August 2022 and 31 October 2023. Route 533 changed operator from Metroline to London General on 15 October 2022.

Despite typically running four buses per hour, the 533 was classed as a ‘High Frequency’ route until 02 March 2023. From 03 March 2023 it formally became a ‘Low Frequency’ route.

The following data metrics are reported:

01 August 2022 to 28 February 2023 – High Frequency:

  • Scheduled Wait Time (in minutes) – average wait time as if buses ran strictly as scheduled;
  • Actual Wait Time (in minutes) – average actual wait time;
  • Excess Wait Time (in minutes) – extra time customers had to wait on average on top of Scheduled Wait Time;
  • Chance of Waiting (in percentages) – average probability of waiting more than ## minutes;
  • Max Gap (in minutes) – largest gap between buses.

03 March 2023 to 31 October 2023 – Low Frequency:

  • On Time (in percentages) – trips departed between -2.5 and +5.0 minutes of scheduled time;
  • Early (in percentages) – trips departed between -8.0 and -2.5 minutes of scheduled time;
  • Late (in percentages) – trips departed between +5.0 and +15.0 minutes of scheduled time;
  • Trips not run or ran too early (earlier than -8.0 minutes of scheduled time) or ran too late (later than +15.0 minutes of scheduled time).

The data is presented by time periods and timing points. For reliability measurement purposes bus punctuality is assessed at specific locations.

In direction 1 buses are assessed at Hammersmith Bus Station (HAMMBL Q) and Avondale Road (MORTHA Q).
In direction 2 buses are assessed at Lonsdale Road (LNDRCN Q), Barnes Pond (BRNSPD Q) and Avondale Road (MORTHA Q).

The data is also summarised by direction and across both directions.
